  • As described by James Hilton in his novel, Lost Horizon, Shangri-L was a state founded 200 years ago where the people lived up to a hundred years old, all harmoniously and peacefully. The place was called "Shangri-La" by the local folks. Nearby, there were blue lakes, broad grassy marshlands snow-clad peaks, and lamaseries, Buddhist nunneries, Catholic Church, mosques, etc.

  • The Baishui Terrace, which is located in this mysterious wonderland, is painted a lush green and gold.  In the past, several religions and nationalities thrived together side to side.  Also many traders and foreign scholars came here to make money and discover the historical and cultural relics, respectively.

Up to the end of this century, people finally have found¡ªafter careful inspection and scrutiny, that Diqing Prefecture, the only Tibetan region in Yunnan bores a striking similarity with the place described in the novel.
