Mongolia is a landlocked country in East and Central Asia which borders Russia to the north and China to the south. It covers an area of 1,564,115 square kilometers and has an estimated population of nearly 3 million people. Ulan Bator, the capital and largest city, is home to about 38% of the population. Mongolia's political system is a parliamentary republic. Mongolia's economy is centered on agriculture and mining. Mongolia has rich mineral resources, and copper, coal, molybdenum, tin, tungsten, and gold account for a large part of industrial production. It developed diplomatic relation with China on October 16, 1949.
