Benin

Benin, officially the Republic of Benin, is a country in West Africa consisting of a narrow coastal strip that rises to a swampy, forested plateau and then to highlands in the north. It covers an area of 112,622 square kilometers with a population of almost 8.8 million. The capital is Porto-Novo but the largest city and the seat of government is Cotonou. During the colonial period and at independence, the country was known as Dahomey. China first established the diplomatic relations with Benin in 1964; however, in 1966 Benin ended the relation unilaterally. Since they rebuilt it in 1972, the friendship and cooperation between China and Benin has been developing normally.
