Portugal, officially the Portuguese Republic, is a southwestern Europeen country located on the Iberian Peninsula. Portugal is the westernmost country of mainland Europe and is bordered by the Atlantic Ocean to the west and south and by Spain to the north and east. Portugal covers an area of 92,090 square kilometers and has an estimated population of 10.65 million people. Traditionally a sea-power, Portugal has had a strong tradition in the fishing sector and is one of the countries with the highest fish consumption per capita. It developed diplomatic relations with China on February 8th, 1979. Since then the bilateral relations have developed smoothly and steadily.
