Venezuela, officially the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, is a tropical country on the northern coast of South America. It is a continental mainland with numerous islands located off its coastline in the Caribbean Sea. It covers an area of 916,700 square kilometers and has a population of 28,3 million. The republic won its independence from Spain in 1821. It consistently ranks among the top ten crude oil producers in the world. The petroleum sector dominates Venezuela's mixed economy. China and Venezuela established diplomatic relations in 1974.
