Erdos, situated in the southwest of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, is just 600 Kilometers west of Beijing and 100km south of the Yellow River. Generally, Erdos enjoys a semi-arid climate with the highest recorded temperature at 21 degrees Celsius and lowest 8 degrees Celsius. And the annual rainfall of the city is about 400 millimeter a year. The area of the city is 86,752 square kilometers and with the population of around 2,000,000. The city, regarded as one of the birthplaces of the human civilization, has a long history with the Salawusu Culture and Chinese Bronze.
With its scenic grasslands, flourishing cultural heritage and distinct ethnic customs, Erdos has emerged as a significant tourist destination in recent years. Late August is the best time to vacation there. The temperatures during this month range from 20-25 to lows of 15 degrees centigrade. The best known attractions are: Genghis Khan Mausoleum, Ordos Grassland Tourist Area, Ordos Relict Gull National Natural Reserve and Xiangshawan Tourist Area. It is also famous for the abundant natural resources with 50 kinds of mineral resources. Its coal reserves are around 763 billion.
