Lying on southeast of Shandong Province, Qingdao is one of the country's largest industrial centers and port cities. The landscape is split between mountains and hills on one hand, and fertile plains on the other. The city also has booming industries, most notably diesel locomotives, chemical products, rubber and handcraft. Qingdao is also a blossoming tourist destination. The city boosts beautiful beaches and mountains, such as the Mausoleum of 500 Martyrs in Tianheng, the Nanlan Relic in Laixi, and the Gucheng Relic.
Qingdao's ideal location on the coast makes it an important trading port city. Ships carrying up to 10,000 tons can load and unload on the harbors; all transportation facilities are highly sophisticated and convenient. The primary resources in Qingdao are graphite, gold, granite, turquoise, and crystal. It is also rich in sea resources, including fish, and salt. The chief farm products are wheat, peanuts, and fruit.
