The Xinjiang Uighur Autonomous Region Museum, a provincial comprehensive historical museum in China, is located in Xibei Road downtown Urumqi. The Xinjiang Museum was built in 1953 and a new museum was built in 1962 using local architectural styles. The Xinjiang Museum includes several exhibits of silk, known in the region for the silk road, as well as other local and national treasures, especially items from the Tang Dynasty. Other important exhibits are terracotta sculptures and selected Tang Dynasty paintings.
