Tongli, located in Jiangsu Province, is one of many water towns located in the Yangtze River Delta area. The town is divided into seven islets by 15 rivers and connected by 49 bridges. The population of this small waterside town is 55,000 people. The town was established during the Song Dynasty and has over 1,000 years of history. The highlights of the city are the traditional residences built during the Ming and Qing Dynasties. In the city, Jiayin Hall, built in 1922, is famous for its woodcarvings located on the hall itself. Congben Hall, built in 1911, is another structure famous for its woodcarvings. In Tongli, gardens are also very important. Inside the garden, all of its elements are integrated to fit within one another: halls, ponds, pavilions, terraces, etc. Because the town is surrounded by rivers, bridges play an important part to the city. There are three famous bridges in the city, Jili, Changqing and Taiping, that have become the symbol of the city. People will walk across these bridges whenever there is an important event that will occur in their lives.
