Zhaojun Tomb is located on the bank of Dahei River nine kilometers (5.6 miles) to the south of Hohhot. Zhaojun Tomb was built for Wang Zhaojun, one of four famous beauties of ancient China. She was once a female attendant in the Imperial Palace during the Western Han Dynasty (206 B.C. - 24 A.D.). When the king of the Hun people came looking for a wife, Wang Zhaojun volunteered to marry him. After their marriage, the Western Han and the Hun peoples were allies for the next 60 years. This event is still renowned in China.
