Literally meaning "South Capital", Nanjing is the capital of Jiangsu Province, situated in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River, with a history tracing back to 2,500 years. Not only was it the capital of six dynasties in Chinese history, but also houses the Xiaolong Tombs of the Ming Dynasty, the largest existing imperial tomb in China today. In fact, the city was inducted into the World Cultural Heritage by the UNESCO. The city is increasingly becoming a key industrial city with sophisticated transportation and communications, as well as a popular tourist destination. The city is also ranked 3rd in China for its quality of science and education.
