Terraced Fields

Longji Terraced Fields is a hot spot in Guilin. Southeast of Guilin city there are numerous terraced fields, including those of Longji Village from the Ming dynasty. These fields demonstrate some of the imposing beauty of the rice fields, and are built along the slope that wind from the river bank to the top of the mountain. Another example of terraced fields is the Jinkeng Rice Terraces, 25 miles from Longsheng. The fields and the village rise up into the mountains, up to 2400 feet. There are two villages around Jinkeng which contain two of China's tribal minorities; Dazai at the foot of the mountain, and Yao further up.
The buildings of the Yao mimic the terrace fields, as two-story cabins that appear to be stacked on top of each other. Jinkeng is one of the places in China to witness the cultural and historical demonstrations of two ethnic minority tribes of the Chinese, as the Zhuang and the Yao girls may perform singing, dancing or demonstrate traditional hair combing when requested.
