Yangshuo is part of the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, covering over 1,428 square kilometers in the northeastern part of the region. Due to the subtropical climate, with rainfall and heat all year round, the summers are not too hot, and it is not too cold in the winter.

The culture of the people of Yangshuo is rich ad varied, with performances such as the lion and dragon dances, and a long drum dance. There are also many sites of historical interest in the county, including stone carvings, bridges and gardens which are thought to rival that of Guilin city. Many of these buildings and monuments of cultural heritage are located near to the Li River which winds through Yangshuo, adding to the images of natural beauty of the scenery.
