  • The exterior of the Tibet Museum

The Tibet Museum opened in 1999 with a permanent exhibit that displays Tibetan culture and history over thousands of years. The exhibit is created using traditional Tibetan designs and colors.  There are over 1,000 objects displayed and divided into several different categories.

    Prehistory

This part of the museum covers Tibetan history from 50,000 to 3,000 years ago. The exhibit shows the origins of the Tibetan people as well as their connections to different civilizations in the region.

    Indivisible History

This section of the museum displays information and relics about the many different dynastic periods of Tibetan history, including the main subject of Chinese/Tibetan relations.

    Cultural Arts

This section is divided into eight segments that describe the many different arts of Tibetan culture over the last few thousand years. Some of these artifacts are unique to the area of Tibet and prove Tibet's unique, long history.

    People's Culture

This part is divided into six segments that all describe Tibetan's daily life. This shows exactly how, over the years, Tibetans have lived and describes every major aspect of Tibetan life, including marriage and death.
