Song Ching Ling's former residence is a picturesque place located at 46 North Rive Street, around the Rear Lake area in the west of the city district. It is dedicated to the late Honorary chairman of the People's Republic of China, and was formally a garden of a mansion belonging to a prince of the Qing Dynasty, it is situated in a beautiful and quiet area, with elegant rockeries and pools, surrounded by pines and willow trees. The structure of the garden includes traditionally styled halls and pavilions elegantly linked with winding corridors. The residence was constructed at the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, as the Party and the Government made plans to move Song Ching Ling to Beijing. Song Ching Ling moved to the new residence in 1953, and lived and worked there until she passed away in 1981 on the 29th May.
