Home - China Travel Guide - Beijing Travel Guide - The Wangfujing Street
  • Wangfujing is perhaps Beijings most famous shopping streets. It is perhaps the closest thing to what the West would consider a "city Centre" that there is in the capital. While not exactly a typically "Chinese" shopping experience, due to the abundance of international brands and high prices, it can be a nice place to walk around. There are many large shopping malls here that if nothing else are fun to walk around and offer insight into the emerging Chinese wealthy elite.

There are cheaper shops nearby, with many side streets and alleyways home to all manner of souvenir merchants and local food stalls. It can be a good place to find a bargain on "Chinese" goods such as enamelware, swords, statues etc.

It is also a good place to try local snacks, with two well known food markets. While some of what's available is a little exotic there are many tasty treats. If nothing else you will certainly encounter sights to write home about.
