  • Jade Buddha Temple is situated in the northwest of the city near the intersection of Anyuan Lu and Jiangning Lu. The temple is a popular attraction, attracting large numbers of visitors, both locals and tourists.

The temple was built between 1911 and 1918, and houses 70 resident monks. It is one of the few Buddhist temples remaining in Shanghai. The temple is easily recognized from the outside thanks to its bright saffron walls. In the temple, photography is forbidden. The temple is open daily except for a hour for lunch between noon and 1 pm, and on special occasions, such as the Lunar New Year.

Inside, the centerpiece is a two-meter-high white jade statue of a sitting Buddha encrusted with jewels. It is said too weigh 1,000kg. The sitting Buddha was brought to the province in 1882 from Burma. A smaller reclining Buddha lies on a redwood bed.
