Nanjing Road

Nanjing Road is China's premier shopping street. Starting at the Bund in the east and passing through the city center before ending in the west at the junction of the Jingan Temple and Yan'an West Street it is 3.4-miles long. There are over 600 shops along the street offering countless famous brands, superior quality goods, and new fashions, including the city's largest department store, pearl store, food store, medical shop, clothing store, and bookstore.  Nanjing Road was first the British Concession, then the site of the International Settlement. Importing large quantities of foreign goods, it became the first shopping street in the city. Since then Nanjing Road has been extensively restructured.
For the convenience of shoppers, Nanjing Road's eastern end has an all-weather pedestrian arcade. Big traditional stores as it do not dominate the market as they once did due to modern shopping malls, specialty stores, theaters, and international hotels mushrooming on both sides of the street. In the evening the atmosphere is enlivened by open-air bars, abstract sculptures, and street musicians making the street an ideal place to take a stroll. A tram catering to tourists provides an effortless and comfortable way to experience the night-transformed street. Today, Nanjing Road is a must-see attraction drawing thousands of fashion-seeking shoppers from all over the world. Location: in the center of Shanghai City. Open time: 24 hours
