Yingxian Wooden Pagoda

Yingxian Wooden Pagoda is located in Yingxian, Shanxi province. People can see a high pagoda towering aloft in the area about 70 Kilometers away from Datong, that is called one of the five ancient architectures in Shanxi province. Yingxian is in the north of Shanxi province, the wooden pagoda is in the north-west of the county. Yingxian wooden pagoda is also called Buddha Palace Mosque Shijia pagoda, which was set up in 2nd year of Da Liao Qingning (1056 A.D.). Nearly 1000 years ago, the Buddha Palace Mosque was a magnificant mosque. After that, it was damaged during war. The wooden pagoda named Shijia Pagoda has been towered aloft until nowadays.
The pagoda has been able to withstand many severe earthquakes over the years since it was built. There have been a few major earthquakes, including one that lasted seven days during the Yuan Dynasty under Emperor Shun. The area of the pagoda was effected by the earthquakes, yet the pagoda did not budge. Since the People's Republic of China was founded, many survey groups, sent by the government, has looked after the pagoda and repaired and reinforced the structure. In 1974, as the pagoda was being repaired, a number of valuable items were found in the pagoda, all placed there during the Liao Dynasty, including some very important Buddhist scriptures.
