Chengede, a famous cultural city with about 300 years history, used to be the second political center in the Qing dynasty, with the largest extant royal garden in China. Qing emperor Kangxi and Qianlong constructed a summer palace in Chengde, that gradually grew into plans for 36 constructions. Nowadays, Chengde not only still has these cool summers, it retains the memories of this Qing invasion with some of the best Imperial Garden architecture in China.

Tour Itinerary
Tour Itinerary: (Lunch) First, we will pick you up from your hotel and drive a few hours northeast to the old resort city of Chengde. After having lunch, you will tour the Temple of Potaraka Doctrine, built in 1767 and modeled after the Potala Monastery in Lhasa. After touring the temple you will visit the Summer Resort, built between 1703 and 1792. This resort was the second political center of the Qing Imperial Court. Afterwards our tour will take you back to your hotel in Beijing.

Attraction DescriptionSummer Resort was built during the reigns of Emperors Kangxi and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty (mid 17th to late 18th century). There are two areas of the resort, the imperial garden and the palace. In total, there are 29 causeways and bridges, 16 gardens and temples, 90 pavilions and over 60 rockeries covering a total of 1000,000 sq. meters.
The Temple of Universal Peace was built while Qianlong was Emperor of China. It is located in the north eastern corner of the city and was built after one of the earliest Buddhist monasteries in Tibet, Samye Temple.

Question:I’m interested in your One Day Beijing Chengde Tour. However, I checked that Chengde is 23km away from Beijing. Will one day making a round trip a little tight? Can we take train to Chengde from Beijing? We are a group of three. Waiting for your reply.
Answer:I can understand your considering, because there are mainly mountain roads from Beijing to Chengde. Thanks for the newly-opened highway, driving from Beijing to Chengde only costs two and a half hours. So, you don’t have to worry about the time. You can take a train to Chengde. But the train time is set, not flexible. Regularly, we don’t choose this way.
