Pine Valley Scenic Area

Pine Valley area is one of the most famous travel sites of Mt. Huangshan. Located on the north slope of Mt.Huangshan, the Pine Valley Scenic Area covers 12.5 km (7.77miles) with a fall in altitude of 1,100 meters (3,609 feet) made up of over 6,500 steps. Rocks and ponds are the highlights. The Emerald Pool, the Five-Dragon Pond, and the rock of Guan Gong Resists Cao Cao (both were famous generals during the Three Kingdoms Period) are the main attractions. The Emerald Pool is surrounded by rocks, fed by a crystal clear stream from the Pine Valley. The reflections of the mountains and trees create another world in the water, but the pleasant image is deceptive as the water is far too cold even in summer and could easily cause a person to drown.
After a visit to the Pine Valley Temple visitors can cross a bridge to reach the Pine Valley Nunnery, which is nestled at the foot of the Diezhang Peak. The surroundings here are quiet and pleasant. It is a good place to enjoy the ancient stone inscription and other beautiful scenery. The Five Dragon Pond located not far away from the Emerald Pool and the Pine Valley Stream is actually five giant rocks naturally shaped like dragons stretching their heads down to drink water, hence the name.
